LABORATORY SUPERINTENDENT

PROFILE

Minimum B.Sc in Chemistry, Geology or related subject
Minimum 3-5-years of prior experience in a geochem lab environment
Fire Assay and Minerals prep experience required
Expert working knowledge of the mining and minerals industry
Strong leadership and management skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage people.
Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
A sense of diplomacy and networking skills are essential to build relationships with external clients as well as key internal personnel.
Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint, Outlook).
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
Ability to work well with others & independently.
Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
Works well under pressure.
Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.

Primary responsibility for laboratory operations is expected to direct, plan, organize and motivate laboratory staff in the performance of their responsibilities and functions, communicating across the organization. Accountable for productivity and quality, and works with others to ensure that the facility exceeds budget and operational targets in a timely and effective manner while observing corporate quality, environmental, Health & Safety requirements. Controls laboratory costs through efficient utilization of staff and active management of other costs, and ensures that work meets established quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as well as maintaining or obtaining any necessary accreditations.

Operations Manager, with a dotted line to the company’s technical advisors

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

-Operate to and ensure full compliance with Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct at all times;
-Communicate, enforce, demonstrate, monitor, and maintain the designated
-Health, Safety, and Environment for the laboratory operation, reporting any incidents, accidents, or concerns. Be accountable for compliance to all environmental regulations for air, waste, water, and soil;
-Ensure the on-time completion and accuracy of testing procedures, results, reports, and certificates in accordance with relevant standard methods and documented procedures;
-Ensure regular and responsive communication with all departments and their inquiries with emphasis on effective order review;
-Apply, monitor, and maintain laboratory Quality and Quality Management Systems in all areas, identifying both potential non-conformities with appropriate preventative actions as well as existing non-conformities with appropriate corrective actions;
-Obtain appropriate laboratory accreditations that support company objectives.
-Continuously improve and maintain the operational excellence of laboratory processes as well as organization and housekeeping of all work areas;
-Work with Human Resources to attract, select, and recruit the best lab talent. Lead, motivate, coach, and develop laboratory personnel. Manage performance, including objective setting, continuous feedback, and performance appraisals. Ensure all laboratory staff are fully competent to carry out their required duties by identification of training needs and coordination of training programs and ensure maintenance of records;
-Obtain, timely report, monitor, review, and act upon Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as applicable, at a minimum those required;
-Manage costs in order to achieve laboratory targets without compromising service delivery and quality;
-Ensure that workflow through the laboratory operations is optimized. Monitor, forecast, and maintain staffing levels in an efficient, productive, and sustainable manner;
-Monitor and optimize utilization rates of major instruments using established SGS Laboratory Excellence tools;
-Ensure laboratory supplies and consumables are purchased in a timely fashion and kept at optimal levels.
